Ulrich (Uli) Hans Huber

Birth Place: Uli Huber was born in Dielsdorf, Zurich, Switzerland August 17, 1950
Uli completed high school and started his apprenticeship with Swissair as an electronic equipment mechanic (EGM). During that time, he joined the Swiss Young Aviator Program and obtained his Private Pilot’s License. In 1970 he graduated from the electronics training with certificate, remained with Swissair and worked in the electronic department, repairing autopilot computers, speed command computers, which were used on DC-8, DC-9, etc.
Uli noticed an ad in the Swiss newspaper that Canadian Marconi Company were looking for electronic technicians in Montreal. He applied and received a working visa 6 months later. He emigrated to Canada in 1975, worked with CMC for 9 months. In 1976 Uli started work with AIRCOM Electronics. He worked on fixed wing aircraft including DC-3 and his favorite …. helicopters!!!!
SEALAND Helicopters was just starting up a new operation in Newfoundland in 1979. Uli accepted a job offer to manage the avionics department. He worked on Bell series helicopters at first but very soon an Aerospatiale Puma AS-330 was added to the company fleet. Later got the opportunity to work on Sikorsky S-76A’s, AS-332C and AS-332L Super Puma’s. When SEALAND expanded and purchased Okanagan Helicopters, he was transferred to Vancouver in 1989 and managed the avionics department until 1992 when he accepted a job with Pacific Avionics as General Manager.
In 1994 Uli moved his family to Halifax where he started Atlantic Avionics Inc. Uli became active in the Atlantic AME Association, first as a member and in 1997 as a director and in 2012 as president until 2018. He also was involved with the AEA – Aircraft Electronics Association – and became a Director for Canada. During that time, he assisted with the AME Conference ARAMC and was chairman for 3 conferences.
Uli also was President of CFAMEA from 2016 to 2018
Uli has been recognized several times for his support and involvement within the aviation industry. He received the NL. Government ARAMC award for: an individual who has shown outstanding interest in and support of the AME Association (Atlantic) in 2006; ARAMC AVIALL Award for: an individual or corporation who has shown outstanding interest in and support of the AME Association (Atlantic) in 2003; ARAMC Roger Richard award for the retired AME: “who has distinguished himself/herself during their career”.
Uli sold Atlantic Avionics to the Moncton Flight College in 2013. Uli fully retired in 2016
Uli continues to have a keen interest in the Aviation Industry and the Association.
