Robert Horne
Everett, ON

Robert Horne has been actively involved in aviation since 1977 when he started studies at Seneca College to become a pilot. In 1978 he continued studies at Centennial College where he earned his technical certificate accreditation and began his apprenticeship records to becoming an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer.

There were many choices for a career path while at Centennial College in 1979. Robert chose fixed wing, small aircraft. He began his first job at The Waterloo Flying Club. Later in 1979 he moved back to Toronto and started work at Leggat Aircraft at Buttonville Airport when he achieved his AME license in 1981.

Robert’s career has taken him many places for jobs; Leggat Aviation twice; Brampton and Rockcliffe Flying clubs; Central Airways in Toronto and Kingston; 2 different airlines; 2 more flying schools and finally The Cessna Aircraft Company (now Textron Aviation) which Robert retired from in June 2022. Robert says that Cessna was the best job he had in his career. Lots of training; lots of interpersonal skills gained and the travel across all of Canada and for a short period the New England states was just the greatest experience.

Robert has formed and utilized 2 of his own companies; Berringer Aviation and RTH Aviation which still functions today doing Import and Export work.

Robert has travelled to a variety of geographical places while in his career such as New Zealand, Germany, Iqaluit, all over Canada and Eastern USA.

Among other accomplishments Robert has been a member of several Aviation organizations for many years. He is member 4 of the Ontario Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Association; a member for 44 years. Robert is a huge supporter of the National Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Association AMEC/TEAC once named CFAMEA

Another important accomplishment has been mentoring of many Apprentice Aircraft Maintenance Engineers over the years. Several have been very successful by simply doing great work, being great communicators and applying themselves.

Robert’s biggest accomplishment to date is being married to his best friend Tracy who also had a great career in aviation. We are an Aviation household. You should see the models and pictures in their collection.

Thank you to AMEC/TEAC for the honor to be Inducted into the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (A.M.E.) Hall of Fame and receive the first David Douglas Snedden Memorial Award.
