Career Fest in the West!

October was a busy month for the Western Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Association (WAMEA) and Pacific Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Association (PAMEA) volunteers alike. Combining forces they attended the YYC and YVR Careers in Aviation Expos, presented by Wings/Helicopter Magazine.

The Careers in Aviation Expo features two events held in different regions of Canada with the goal of connecting aspiring aviators, graduating students and young professionals with a variety of companies, organizations and schools. The event is designed to provide insight into a range of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aviation careers, including, but not limited to: Pilots, Aircraft Maintenance Engineers, Air Traffic Controllers, airport and airline operations, aerospace engineering and design, and flight services. In addition to various main stage presentations happening over the course of the day, attendees are able to register for individual “breakout sessions” to further explore specific career options and ask questions within a small group led by a mentor/subject matter expert.

Across both events, WAMEA and PAMEA held 4 breakout sessions, providing tailored personal advice to a variety of individuals at different stages of their careers. With some thinking about pursuing a career as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer to others looking for advice on how to continue on their paths and have meaningful careers, countless hours of successful mentoring and networking took place.

The YYC Expo was attended on October 4, 2025 by WAMEA President Kirk Watson and PAMEA President Hannah Duffield with the YVR Expo following on October 25, 2025 attended by PAMEA President Hannah Duffield, PAMEA Treasurer Peter Chick and PAMEA team member Brandon Mireau.
