My love of aviation started when I was 10 years old. My grandma Morgan bought me a balsa wood/tissue paper Guillows model airplane kit. That started me building lots of kits. In junior high school I joined 647 Air Cadets in Burnaby. Then I went into the RCAF Reserves. That was all summer and some weekends for 4 years. After graduating from school I started a career in shoe sales. I was manager of the Bata Shoe store in Chilliwack. But, my love of aviation did not go away. During that time as manger I got my pilot’s licence at the Chilliwack Flying Club. When that career ended I went to the Aeronautics course at BCVS on Wellington Ave. in Burnaby. My hands on maintenance started with Pacific Western Airlines in 1968. From there I went all over this country from YVR to Prince Rupert, to Port Hardy, to Redditt Ont., to Winnipeg, to Prince George, to Calgary, to Abbotsford and finally to Chilliwack in 1986. There I started my own business and stayed here ever since. I became a member of the PAMEA in 1984 and have been a member ever since. To this day I believe I was the only AME that wore a tie to work to look, and be, professional. As for being re-tired, I’m still hands on with some businesses and with the local Air Cadets. I guess there is more to come. My love of aviation ain’t over yet.
